'Kinsa ay Gwapa?' [from 2 Jan 2009]

Philippines IX 027 I've been in Balilihan for less than two weeks and already I'm singing along to High School Musical and wondering what happened to my sanity. I hope my mum's superstitious belief that what you do on New Year's Day will become a repeated habit throughout the year is wrong because I stayed up until 3am with half a dozen or so cousins singing along with Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Frankly, that's embarrassing and not as adventurous as today's climb up Niluksoan Falls.

What can I say? Balilihan is gorgeous.

Beautiful Baguio

For those of you thinking I've been kidnapped (how else could I stay away from the internet so long?), you're about to be greatly disappointed: I haven't, and I'm coming back to annoy you all in just one more week. That said, I'm going to miss the Philippines. It's a beautiful country with an interesting lifestyle with a culture so vastly different to ours in Australia. I'm currently in the beautiful city (town?) of Baguio. Even the ride here brought gorgeous views.

Philippines XV 006

This was at a pit stop somewhere between Manila and Baguio, just before reaching Monoag. Rice paddies and mountains as far as the eye could see.

Philippines XV 007

Now this wouldn't be very me without a random photo.

 Philippines XV 039

And this is the view from the balcony where my family stayed. Rice paddies and houses high on the hills.

Here it is at night.

Enjoy. =D

Bobbet 2

So, no one has posted in a while so I thought I would.
One day, I was staring out my bedroom window watching my mum take my dog for a walk. All of a sudden Aggie runs over into the ditch and chases something. I can see something green jumping away from her so I run down the driveway to help mum catch Aggie again and find she has just pounced on a lorikeet [which can't fly away]. So I run back up to the house to get a towel to cover it and Jess and I spend the next ten minutes running around through our bush to catch the bird. No, we don't believe in keeping wild birds as pets but we have been in this situation before - the lorikeet was not flying because it is known as a "runner" which means basically it won't survive in the wild cos all it can do is crawl around on the ground. We have had a runner before [Bobbet 1] and we fed it and looked after it and one day, he flew away. So we figured we would do the same for this one, feed it, look after it and hope it flies away one day.
We finally caught the bird, Jess had to go to work so she handed the bird to me and... it got out of my hands. So I spent another few minutes trying to catch it again.
Anywhoo, after getting a bird cage, bird seed and bird powder mixture off Wade the Bird Man, we set him up to be spoilt until the one day he decides to leave us.
He used to eat off my hand and let me tickle his head occasionally. Then one day we decided to see whether he was ready to fly. So we opened up the cage door. He jumped out the door, threw himself off the snake cage and onto the ground. He then proceeded to jump about everywhere as he still can not fly. Ever since this fateful day, Bobbet has been psycho.
Every time I go near him he throws himself into the side of the cage, screaching. I cleaned his cage out today and he spent the whole time screaching at me [which I have to say is an absolutely awful noise]. Now I'm just hoping that he will decide to fly away soon!
Anywhoo, not a particularly interesting post but still.
I'm gonna attach a picture of Bobbet but I will let you know what happened. I went to take a photo of Bobbet and as soon as the camera was brought up to his height he jumped off the perch and onto the bottom of the cage, so I moved the camera down and he climbed up the side and back onto the perch. Anywhoo, the picture might look a bit weird but he was hiding from the camera....

Sigh, society.

My Dad has a new phone, and it comes with a number of text message 'templates.' These templates allow people to send fairly generic messages without having to make the effort of typing them out for themselves. They include:

I'm going to be late. I'll be there at ______ .
I'm in a meeting. Call me back at ________ .
I'll see you in _________ .
Meeting cancelled.
Happy Birthday!

and, my personal favourite:

I love you too.

A Text Update

The original camera of image capture has been lost. Instead of pictures, you will have to attempt to understand my words.

white.Rabbit. says (6:27 PM):
I have the essential book of matlab
and with this spells book I have made matlab laugh

For the record, matlab played Handel first. Later a game of "Why" was played:

>> why
The bald and not excessively bald and not excessively smart hamster obeyed a terrified and not excessively terrified hamster.
>> why
To fool the tall good and smart system manager.
>> why
The rich rich and tall and good system manager suggested it.
>> why
He wanted it that way.
>> why
The programmer suggested it.
>> why
Barney suggested it.
>> why
To please a very terrified and smart and tall engineer.
>> why
The tall system manager obeyed some engineer.
>> why
To satisfy some programmer.
>> why
Damian wanted it that way.
>> why
Can you rephrase that?

For the record, I am procrastinating. I am not using matlab ever again.

So welcome to 2009, it is not much different from 2008 just one digit larger. The only way that it affects (or effects?, no fireworks are effects this must be affects?) me is when I date things ill have to get into the habit of putting xx/xx/09 rather than xx/xx/08, which of course will take 3 or 4 months to get use to. Anyway back on topic I hope that everyone celebrated New Years in a reasonable fashion, while we were out and about Mitchell and I spotted something very interesting, amusing, witty and obviously 50% drunk which is the best time to move for sale or for rent signs to other locations.

Zoomed in to read the sign

These photos are obviously going to be the round-about from different angles, which is kind of amusing as it's a circle and will look exactly the same only the background will change.
For those who can't spot where exactly this is, I shall use my perplexing Google-fu©

The people who thought of that idea were geniuses, unless they are actually serious and this patch of land is actually for sale, it would be quite handy for those who go to UQ, want to be the centre of attention and like to feel like the world revolves around them.
I might fit two of those categories so perhaps ill call up and get the real estate agent to give me a tour.

There are also other various things you could do with this block round of land most would probably just cause car accidents, but they would be things like using it as a car park. It's round tho so it would have to be a parking spot for a stereotypical UFO as it's the most efficient use of space, and they don't neatly fit in the typical car parks. It would also stop UQ from discriminating against UFOs and Aliens, similar situation happens with disabled people why they get a larger car park which is close to the entry points.

Perhaps placing a series of mirrors on and around it, to make it seem like there are cars on it when there isn't or you could contrive a way so the driver sees their car, but at a different entry to the aound-a-bout.

Yeah its holidays and I am babbling. But before I go here are a few other various photos I have on my iPhone that I wish to share.
